Tried and Tested

When it comes to the exercises we select in the gym, we strongly lean towards tried and tested movement patterns.

Things like Squats, Lunges, Deadlifts, Presses, Jumping and Olympic Lifting to name a few…

Recently I have been getting bombarded in my social media feeds with new “fitness” products. Things like water bags for twisting around your head to build your core and a box which you put on the floor and jump in and out of and follow some sort of pattern for cardio.

I’m not naive enough to think there isn’t a market for this because people, being who they are, sometimes need these things for motivation or novelty and that's what gets them moving in the first place. This is great!

While these products might be cool and novel, don’t think for a minute they take away the need for you to function as a human and the tried and tested methods are what will pay the biggest dividends. Life is always going to require you to squat, lunge and pick things up.

So, rather than investing in the next gimmick to boost your motivation, instead think about investing that same money into getting a coach to teach you how to move. After all, you don’t need another item destined for next year’s council clean up sitting in your garage for another year!
