Being Your Best In Moment That Matter...

When you think of mental toughness what comes to mind?

For me, it was an image of a footy team being physically smashed in a pre season camp run by the Army. Seeing big strong men being pushed to their physical limits by hard ass drill sergeants who wouldn’t take excuses for taking a rest…

What I’ve come to realise over the years though is that while this is great for building character traits like grit, determination and resilience it is not actually mental toughness training.

Toughening the body doesn’t mean you’re toughening the mind…

It’s why we still see players miss game winning shots from right in the middle of the posts, it’s why some players while clearly better statistically on paper never make it far in the league when they get there!

This isn't just limited to sports either. Can you make good decisions in the boardroom? If something doesn't go your way are you still able to put out your best performance?

Mental toughness is not being able to endure more physically it’s the ability to be your best in moments that matter...
